Pallars Sobirà: Open Day at the Composting Plant of Sort

14 November, 2015

Compost 100% Pallars Sobirà is already here!

The facilities of the new Composting Plant of Sort are already at full capacity and the first compost 100% made at Pallars Sobirà (Catalonia) is ready to be used in houses, fields and gardens of the county.

On Saturday 14th, there was an Open Day at the Composting Plant of Sort, which was inaugurated in July. The visitors were able to know how the organic fraction that have been separating at home since March due to the Door-to-Door collection service,  is transformed into a high quality compost. They could also take home a little sample of this compost, elaborated thanks to their efforts.

The construction of the Composting Plant is a part of the SCOW project, led by the Urban Ecology Agency of Barcelona, and the implementation of the Door-to-Door collection service was a necessary requirement to ensure good separation of bio-waste, which along with the use of compostable bags, has made possible to obtain this high quality compost. The works made in Catalonia in the framework of the SCOW project have the support of the Consell Comarcal del Pallars Sobirà and the Waste Agency of Catalonia, which has funded the complementary actions of the Plant.
